Naming PDFs

Post by AsafKeller »

I have set Preferences to name imported PDF as "author, date", This works fine for PDFs I import from my hard drive. However, PDFs downloaded from Pubmed are always named "author, year, unique identifier". Is it possible to set a preferred naming scheme for Pubmed downloads?

Author-date naming is going to give you lots of duplicates over time (e.g. Smith, 2006), and when this occurs Bookends will append a differentiating random number for you. Since PubMed already supplies a unique number, and it actually means something, I decided to have Bookends just attach that automatically. I don't see understand why it bothers you, it does no harm and is potentially useful, but since it does you might want to define your own naming format (just outputting the first author's surname and the year) and tell Bookends to use that (in Preferences, Refs tab). Then if there are no conflicts you'll get that name, and if there is a conflict you'll get "author date random unique number".
