Global Find/Replace Empty Fields?
Global Find/Replace Empty Fields?
I have used Refs-->Find to identify over 400 imported references that are to the same journal, BUT because of a poor importing process (probably due to me) the Journal field is empty for each. I want to have Bookends do a global replace of the empty fields with a journal abbreviation. While finding the refs with empty fields was easy using the choice "field is empty" in the Find window, I cannot figure out how to replace the empty fields with a journal abbreviation using Refs-->Global Change-->Find and Replace. How do I specify an empty field in this window? Leaving the field box blank does not seem to work.

Hi,
When you do a Find, the "found" references are all in the Hits List. So, do a Global Change and make it apply to the references in the Hits List (you can select this from among various options in the Global Change dialog pop-up menu).

P.S. Whenever making major global changes, I make a backup of the db first in case I want to undo the operation for whatever reason.
