citing in press

Post by drzog »

Hi sorry if this is an elementary problem:

when an article asks
Please cite this article as: Norton W. Milgram et al., Neuroprotective effects of cognitive enrichment, Ageing Research Reviews (2006), doi:10.1016/j.arr.2006.04.004
what field can i use for the doi bit, so it just gives a normal (author, date) in text citation but as above for the bibliography, and does BE include this in the imported pubmed citation?

So heres what i have done: i goto preferences, set user 4 in field labels to DOI, set for in press reference types.

then edit my default format add field DOI for my in press articles:

then add DOI
10.1016/j.arr.2006.04.004
into article DOI field manually, (will pubmed import do this automatically?)

trial scan
in text is good: (Milgram et al., 2006).

bib output is good: Milgram NW, Siwak-Tapp CT, Araujo J & Head E. 2006. 'Neuroprotective Effects of Cognitive Enrichment.', Ageing Res Rev, 10.1016/j.arr.2006.04.004: in press.

(in press= i added with $in press, in formatting)

i just arent sure of how to get the DOI to register from pubmed import for all my in press articles, is it in the uploaded pubmed citation?

ps how do i get BE to put in text citations et al in italics, I can only seem to get a setting for the bibliography "use if > .. authors option"

Unfortunately, the doi tag is

AID

, which is the same tag that is used for the pii (a pii, or Controlled Publisher Identifier, is any internal reference identifier used in the publishing process. This identifier is assigned by the publisher).

So you may import one or the other, or both, depending on what is on PubMed.

The tag is the identifier Bookends looks for in the data -- that's how it knows what information goes where (they are entered in the import filter).

You can download the doi automatically, but in some cases you'll get the pii instead, in some cases you'll get both. You can manaully edit those cases after the import, which is probably easier than entering them by hand.
