If this has been directly addressed in another thread, I apologize, and I didn't look hard enough. Now, to cut to the chase: Kate Turabian's style manual is quite specific about how to reference books that are part of a publisher's series, but she only seems to mention the possibility that a book will have a number in a series when there's a series editor involved. Don't ask me why. For those of you who use Turabian, is it customary to leave out a book's series number? For example, would you use the following:
Barnard, F. M. Herder on nationality, humanity, and history. McGill-Queen's studies in the history of ideas, no. 38. Montreal: McGill-Queen's University Press, 2003.
or the following:
Barnard, F. M. Herder on nationality, humanity, and history. McGill-Queen's studies in the history of ideas. Montreal: McGill-Queen's University Press, 2003.
It seems trivial, but it brings up an oddity that I hadn't noticed before: there doesn't seem to be a way in BE to supply automatically the "no." for a book that's part of a series. I've been manually typing "no." in the Ser Title field rather than in the Volume Field, which doesn't seem applicable in this case. Also, I had to edit the Turabian Format within BE to change the comma after Ser Title to a period when formatted, but that's minor. Maybe it's related, but I'm rambling already.
