Preference to change the "auto-rename"?

Post by kga1978 »

Great piece of software first of all - I love it!

However, would it be possible to change the way that Bookends sets the "default" name when automatically importing .pdfs? At the moment it will name them "Author, Year" if importing from Pubmed, but as "Author, Year, Title", when automatically importing from local files.

I would like to be able to change this behaviour - I generally (and so does everybody else in my lab) name my articles by name rather than author - many authors would have the same last name, meaning that you would end up with a lot of files having the same file-name using the current method. It would be great if this behaviour could be customized in the future.

Thanks

Hi,

I don't quite understand -- what name do you use if not the author's? Or do you mean the full name rather than just the surname?

Also, when finding a local pdf Bookends doesn't rename it at all. It copies the pdf (with the name you gave it) to the attachment folder.

Finally, there are several other threads on pdf naming. It's something I'm certainly going to work on for future updates.

Thanks for the quick reply and sorry I wasn't quite clear there! I meant that most of us name our articles with the title of the article, rather than the author names.
