replicate as book chapter for conference proceedings

Post by Gerben »

I wonder if it would be possible to enable the 'replicate as book chapter' also for conference proceedings? These are essentially the same as an edited book.

Best,

Yes, it would be. Do others who use this feature agree?

I've looked into it, and I don't know why you would want this. Correct me if I'm missing something, but only the title and the pages field would change -- they would be set to empty. Why not just Duplicate the reference and replace the title and pages with the new info? The replicate edited book does more, such as moving the book title to the corresponding field in a chapter.

I've wanted something like this for some time, so as to more easily create a separate database entry for a chapter in a book whose entire contents was written by one person or the same set of persons -- say, a collection of essays by a single author (or the same authors) that I want to record both at the book level and the chapter level. For example:

Baker, Nicholson. The Size of Thoughts: Essays and Other Lumber. New York: Random House, 1996.

Baker, Nicholson. “Books as Furniture.â€

Ah, so the book title field has to be moved, leaving the original title field blank (and pages blank). Is that the essence of it? If so, easily done.

Yes, that's it. I'm not sure how frequently other users of BE might require this, but it seems to me something that many of us working in the humanities -- where collections of essays by the same author or authors, without an "editor", are quite common, and the essays are commonly cited as individual chapters -- would run into fairly often.

I also have to do this from time to time, so it would be quite welcome. :)

Me too. I developed the workaround of changing the type of the book to 'edited book', duplicating as chapter, then changing the type back.
