Sort keywords within a record - possible?

Post by prop »

I sometimes add keywords to the end of the pre-existing keywords, but then I end up with a list of keywords that are out of alphabetical order. Is there any way to get Bookends to sort my keywords in alphabetical order? There's probably something simple that I'm missing, but I can't find this in the user guide. Thanks!

No, nothing you are missing. Bookends doesn't do any text processing like that. You could probably copy the field to a text processor, sort, and paste back in (hm, maybe Word does that, too). There may also be some OS X services that will do this (perhaps someone will have a suggestion).

FWIW, a keyword will be found by a search regardless of its position in the field.

I have tested and can verify that WordService 2.5.3 works very well. Just select the keywords and then use the Services - Format - Sort Lines Ascending (or Sort Lines Descending).

This also allows me to insert dates with minimal fuss (see my other thread). However, I'd still love it if I can automatically add a date to a specified field whenever I add a reference manually or automatically. Almost there! ...

This isn't exactly what you want, but it may help: did you know that if you type Command-' in a field, Bookends will copy that field from the previous reference? So in one session you only need to insert a date in a field (e.g. User4) for the first reference. For succeeding references, click in or tab to User4 and press Command-'

And as for adding a reference "automatically" (I guess you mean import), you can already have the date or date & time inserted for you. It's a setting in the Misc tab of the import filter.
