BibTeX format.....and Crash

Post by arneleijon »

Just registered Bookends 8.0.1. I really like some of those new features...But:

Just imported 7600 refs from Bookends 7.7.5, and also copied my slightly modified BibTeX format.

The old BibTeX format ends with a "special" <Return> character, in every ref.type, but in Bookends 8.0.1 this <Return> shows up as 3 strange chars, and the Bibliography window is EMPTY when I use this format. Same thing with the new BibTeX format in the 8.0.1 download. When I save the bibliography to disk, those ugly 3 characters show up again.

I edited away these 3 characters in the format, and then the bibliography looks right, but I have not yet checked if BibTeX processes the output properly. I assume there was a good reason for that special Return....

Then I discovered that the Bookends does not generate a unique BibTeX key, although I checked the "Append lowercase letter" in Preferences.

Then I wanted to try and put that <Return> back into my BibTeX format, using the new 8.0.1 format editor, but then Bookends crashed with an "Database Engine error: Internal error"..... Perhaps this is more related to my Key testing than to the format problem?

I will recreate a small test database and try to reproduce the problem.
