Adobe viewer

Post by brechmos »

When I first started using Bookends recently it used Adobe to view the PDFs. Somehow it got switched over and doesn't use it. I have seen the flag to use WebKit or not. What I would like to have is to use Adobe Reader (or Skim, which seems quite cool)? How can I change it back? I don't see any configuration for the viewer.

Hi,

Whether a pdf plugin is used or not is a system setting, not in Bookends. Make sure "Use WebKit" is turned on in Bookends (Action menu). If you don't see the Adobe plugin being used, go to Adobe Reader's preferences and set it as the default for pdf display.

Having said all that, I strongly discourage use of the plugin with Bookends. Older versions of the plugin can cause crashes, and even with the latest you lose the ability to download the pdf (in Bookends Online Search) with drag and drop.

It would be a huge benefit to be able to use one's favorite viewer. Just a thought.

I don't know if it would be huge or not, but AFAICT (and I've tried hard to find out) it's simply not possible to set this on a per-app basis.
