restricting search fields when scanning manual citations?

Hi,

I work such that I enter manual citations almost exclusively - usually just author and date, but sometimes if the same author has multiple publications from the same year, I add a few words from the title. Or sometimes I'll just type in the title. It's just easiest for me to work this way.

On scanning, though, it seems that Bookends searches through every field of every reference to search for matches. This creates a lot of multiple matches, because abstracts often cite other papers, and I'll often have something in the notes field referring to other papers as well.

Is there a way to prevent this? Ideally, I'd like the matches to be done on the basis of author, title, date, and nothing else. I've tried tweaking all the settings I can think of, and looked through the scan section in the help, but can't seem to find anything.

Hi,

No, that's the way it works and can't be changed. I suggest you cite by author/date/unique ID (a setting in preferences). That ensures a correct match every time.
