APA 6th

Post by rickl »

I've just bought a copy of the 6th edition of the APA style guide, and found that the format for journal articles has changed in a couple of respects:
  • No need for retrieval date for downloaded articles
  • When possible, you should list the DOI of an article
I consider these changes progress, though I guess they mean that Bookends will need a new format. Has anyone noted any other changes?
I'm disappointed to note that APA still wants us to omit the issue number when pagination is continuous through a volume. I always ignore this stipulation, as I find it frustrating to have to search for an issue number before asking to borrow a journal.

Thanks for posting this information. Both new recommendations seem like good common sense.

I agree with you about issue numbers, by the way: I always include them and have never had any objection from a publisher or journal.

Jon,
Are there plans to include APA 6th formatting in a forthcoming version of Bookends?

I haven't gotten around to that yet. I'd welcome advice from those export in APA for what needs updating (direct email to support@sonnysoftware.com would be appreciated).
