Dear Jon
For the past few weeks the fan on my Macbook has been going like a Boeing 747 whenever I have bookends open and Bookends has crashed a few times recently. On further investigation it seems the Bookends thread is eating up 99-100% of my CPU, even when it's not supposed to be doing anything. I have attached a sample of the Bookends process and a recent crash log. Any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks
James

Re: Bookends hogging CPU
Hi,
I don't know what the problem could be. I'd start by removing Bookends 10 Preferences from your preferences folder. I'd also download Bookends 10.6.1 again (just for good luck). See if these steps help.

Thanks
Trashing the plist had no effect but re-downloading Bookends seems to have fixed the problem.

I spoke too soon. It has been open for the last 3 hours with no problems, but now suddenly it has started doing it again.

I see, but I really have no idea why that would be. Another thing to try is to create a new user account and install Bookends there. Does the problem still happen or not? If no one else has any thoughts on this, please follow this up directly, off forum, with tech support.

Re: Bookends hogging CPU
Do you have any system modifications installed? (Things like themes, other user interface modifications?) Have you checked if your fonts are ok? (You might want to use a utility like Font Nuke, TinkerTool System or Onyx to delete font caches as a precaution.)
These are the things I could think of from my head in addition to Jon’s recommendation of testing Bookends in another user account. Jon, would it be helpful for you if he could take a process sample in activity viewer?
