losing attachments

Post by dspady »

At various times when I work I find a reference, or several, that I am quite certain I have linked to an attachment, but the link is gone. The file (pdf) is in my library folder, which is where I put them prior to entering them into Bookends, but the link to bookends is no longer there.
I do not know if this occurs after a rebuild or not, I just have not been observant enough but will try to be so in the future. I have NOT moved the attachments to a different folder, and I have not trashed them and then, at a later date, replaced them with a new copy.
IT is a frustrating problem in that it takes time to relink files, and it makes me less confident in how Bookends functions.

Is this a problem that has arisen before? Is there any way to correct it?

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean. You mean that the reference no longer knows it has an attachment? Or that it knows, but can't locate the attachment to display it?

Generally the reference no longer knows it has an attachment.
Once in a while I have seen a message stating it cannot find the attachment, but that is uncommon, usually it is "nothing to display".

Storage of an attachment name with a reference should not be affected by a Rebuild. I've had no other reports like this -- if you can reproduce it, or gain any insight into when such a thing occurs, please let me know what steps you took so I can try to reproduce it here, too.
