Moving Groups to new database
Moving Groups to new database
Bookends is now running quite slow, especially booting and I am presuming it is related to my database library getting very large. I am planning to break up the database into several smaller ones. Is there an easy way to transfer Groups from one database to another? Thanks- Dave

Have you tried to increase the cache size in Bookends’ preferences? (Preferences > General > Internal cache)
How many entries does your database have?
How many entries does your database have?
Re: Moving Groups to new database
I would recommend sticking with one database and increasing cache, as ozean suggests. You can copy/paste smart (not static) groups from one database to another by selecting it, right-clicking, then copy/paste. But as I said, I'd stick with one database (if you're talking about >50K references then maybe two is better).

Re: Moving Groups to new database
I have 12000 entries in the database. I tried increasing the cache size to 150mb and it still takes over 20 seconds for the program to boot and the database to load. Is that normal?
Re: Moving Groups to new database
That's too much cache -- that will add to the time it takes to open, too. 20 MB is more than enough. Just as an experiment, in preferences tell Bookends to open the reference window on launch, not the List View window. Does that make much of a difference?

OK. 20mb cache cut it down to 10 seconds which is more tolerable. It is much faster in reference mode, but not as useful. Thanks- Dave
Re: Moving Groups to new database
FYI, you can open with the reference window, then press Control-Command-A to bring up the List View window. But we're probably not talking about much time saving compared to just having Bookends do it for you automatically.
