Hi
I am trying to insert some text within citations, which seems to be problematic when the text includes a semicolon. For example, when I insert '\fMRI; \' into a citation it is output simply as ';'. I assume this is because the semicolon has other functions. Is there any easy solution to this?
Cheers
semicolon within backslashes
Re: semicolon within backslashes
Yes, the semicolon is the default citation separator, so Bookends thinks you have two citations. Either avoid using a semicolon in the quoted text (use something else, like a comma or a colon), or select another citation separator in preferences (Scan & Bib tab), such as / or * (do NOT select comma unless your are outputting BibTeX).

Re: semicolon within backslashes
Selecting another citation separator doesn't seem to be working. I am using the most recent versions of Bookends and Mellel, and when I insert multiple citations they are still being separated by a semi-colon. Unfortunately it has caused the first significant data loss since I have been using both programs. When I scanned the Mellel document it replaced every instance where I had multiple citations with a single citation: I assume because it was looking for the forward-slash as separator.
Re: semicolon within backslashes
There shouldn't be any data loss -- just Undo after the scan.
Please contact tech support off-forum and we'll work this out. And send me a screen snap of your Scan & Bib tab in Bookends preferences.

Re: semicolon within backslashes
Thanks for getting back to me so promptly. It was a few days before I noticed the problem, and unscanning now just leaves a single citation where there were often 3 or 4. I will liaise with you off-list to sort it out.
