In the journal BioEssays, in-text citations (if more than 2) are separated by a dash. Is it possible to create something like "[5–7]" with the format manager in Bookends? It currently just uses a short dash in all formats.

You mean an en dash, I think. No, a hyphen is hard-coded. FWIW, almost all journals will do this for you when the paper is accepted. Perhaps I should make the en dash be the default here, though.
Note that in the bibliography Bookends will use an en dash for a page range if you enter p– (that's Option- - on a US keyboard).

Yes, in the next update Bookends will use a en dash when there is a range of reference numbers in a citation group.
