I'm using Bookends with Mellel and I've come across a weird style problem. When I scan the document and generate bibliography, everything looks fine but actually for some reason every line of the bibliography ends with line break defined having overriding character style for "Arial regular".
...which I guess isn't a huge problem necessarily. But as I am bit of a stickler about keeping things neat (especially as one might have to import/export things and styles between programs) this is driving me nuts.
First I thought it was a some kind of file corruption thing. So I made sure I had a clean template in Mellel with all styles neatly defined. And I ran the "Restore default font" on my references to make sure it isn't somehow embedded there.
Then I took my text into raw text, back into Mellel into a new file using the clean template. And everything looked fine.
Until I scanned it. And then magically, the overriding style with "Arial regular" was back.
I tried changing the settings in Bookends so that Bibliography would be generated as ASCII. But for some reason it keeps changing back to "Styled Text" when I scan a document. Is that the culprit?
Any thoughts on what's going on?
Phantom character style with scan
Re: Phantom character style with scan
Mellel's style settings override those in Bookends. As for scanning reverting to styled text, I think that's because that's what we use with Mellel documents. If you simply make a bibliography in Bookends without scanning (Biblio -> Bibliography) does the ASCII setting "stick" or not?

Re: Phantom character style with scan
Ok, let's try... Seems that the setting stays on ASCII when I just generate the Bibliography in Bookends.
So does this mean it's a Mellel problem?

Re: Phantom character style with scan
I wouldn't call it a Mellel problem, it's a Mellel feature more likely. As I said, Mellel's bibliography style settings override what Bookends sends, so you have to configure them the way you want. I really can't help here, but maybe someone else on the forum, the Mellel forum, or Mellel tech support, can.
