'Exclude authors' and conditional formatting

Post by nh220 »

I am using a customized style for a project where the instructions are that if a newspaper article, whether hard copy or online, does have an author, the in-text citation should be: (LastName Year) and if it does not, the Newspaper title or in case of an online source the article title should be used in place of author (the newspaper title italicized, the article title in quotations). To accomplish this, I have put the following under citation options in the formats manager:

Newspaper articles: ({a^j} d)
Internet: ({a^”t”} d)

This appears to work fine and yield the wished for output, until i use the exclude author function. It appears that instead of excluding the entire part in curly brackets, yielding just the date, it yields (j d) and ("t" d), respectively. Is this correct behavior and, if so, is there a way to make the "exclusion" part apply to the entire bit in curly brackets?

In case it matters, this is with Bookends 13.5.1 and Mellel.

It's working as intended. If you use & Bookends will exclude the author and title. It will leave any other field (like journal) in. There's no way to exclude everything inside a conditional group.
