How can I transfer Format Manager Settings to a new machine?

Post by lmperez »

I'm setting up a new machine and would like advice on how to transfer the custom formatting I've done over the last five years? I already transferred the library

Code: Select all

refs.bdb
(the name I use). I can see all my reference entries. So that's good.

Is there a straightforward way to get my various format modifications over? I don't mind copying/pasting the formats I use. I only use a few formats like BibTeX and Chicago that have unique changes. If there is a better way, I couldn't find it when I searched the manual (though, it is entirely possible I was looking in the wrong section).

e.g., I changed

Code: Select all

BibTeX.fmt
to include subtitles by using the

Code: Select all

u20
variable. I made other tweaks unique to my workflow so that when I sync it to a bibtex file, the

Code: Select all

refs.bib
file is formatted in a way that works with my unique use of Biblatex/Pandoc/Quarto.

And if anyone has any other tips about managing this transfer, please do share those well.

You have 3 "custom" folders in the Bookends Folder. Transfer them to the same location on the new Mac and Bookends will find them.

The path to the Bookends Folder is

~/Library/Application Support/Bookends Folder

The easiest way to get there is with Help -> Show Bookends Folder in Finder.

[Tip: you can get to any particular file in a custom folder by right-clicking on it in the Formats Manager or Import Filters Manager.]
