Problem with same-name attachments

Post by jeremydouglass »

I'm having a problem importing attachments with the same name - Bookends thinks each one is the first file. Example:

The Foo Book, by Ann Able
The Bar Book, by Betsie Bee

My files are here:

Papers:Foo:comments.txt
Papers:Foo:draft.pdf
Papers:Foo:game.z5
Papers:Bar:comments.txt
Papers:Bar:draft.pdf
Papers:Bar:game.z5

The files have standard names (comments, draft, etc) and each are kept in a subdirectory for that work - it needs to be this way because other programs are relying on the directory structure, so I'm not copying to a central directory.

I drag to attach Foo:game.z5 to the Foo book
I drag to attach Bar:game.z5 to the Bar book

I launch the Foo attachment - Foo launches
I launch the Bar attachment - Foo (???) launches

Anyone seen anything like this, or have any suggestions?

Hi,

Bookends associates a file to a reference by name, not pathname. It keeps track of the aliases of the folders you have attachments in. It searches those folders for the attachment's name until it finds a match, and returns that. Therefore, if you use subfolders in the attachments folder (or multiple folders anywhere), you shouldn't use generic names, but must add some text to differentiate them.

Note that Bookends should do this automatically when it moves attachments for you (it adds a random number at the end of the name if the name is already used in a different attachment folder).
