cant get reference to bottom of page

Post by chadgr »

Hi, My first evening with Bookends and I have a question after working through the tutorial, looking over the manual, and giving it a try on one of my docs. I'm using Word X and Bookends 9. After inserting a citation I go to scan my document and select Chicago 15th A. Bookends finds the citation and inserts the number in the text as its supposed to, but it places the reference directly at the end of the text. Isn't there a way to have it go at the bottom of the page as Word does?

Thanks.

Hi,

You mean you want to create footnotes, not a bibliography? In that case, create an empty footnote in Word and insert the temporary citation there. Bookends will replace it with the final form after scanning. You can also use Copy Formatted to insert the final form immediately, if you prefer.

Thanks for your quick response. I can get it to work using "copy formatted" directly, but sill cant get it to properly do a temporary citation at the bottom. I create a footnote in Word, then insert the citation next to the superscripted number at the bottom of the page, then scan the document (with the "Generate a bibliography after scan" and "retain hidden citations" boxes checked and using "Chicago 15th A Footnotes" format) and Bookends places another superscript number next to the first and puts the final form of the citation at the end of the text (outside of the footnote space at the bottom of the document). What am I still doing wrong?

Thanks.

I don't know. Save it as RTF and scan that -- does that work?

Sorry I was away. Regarding the discussion above...I've tried the same process using an RTF document and I've tried numerous other variations, but every time I try to do a footnote, Bookends creates another number next to the footnote superscript and the citation appears within the main text below the

It seems like this program fits my needs perfectly, but I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong, if I've got the wrong set up in the formats manager, or if its not installed correctly.

Any suggestions on what to try next? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I think I'll have to see what you are seeing. Please zip and send me a small Word document and a small database -- I'll scan it myself. Also, tell me what format you are using.
