Re: First & last author format?

No, it's not impossible. But Bookends doesn't support an infinite number of options (imagine the UI!). I don't believe "first..last, et al." is an acceptable (i.e. used) combination. There's no point in cluttering up the UI with such constructions in that case. Jon Sonny Software I hear y...

Re: First & last author format?

Hi, No, that's not possible. What journal uses such a format? Jon Sonny Software :-). None. But several of us here are contributing to the development of a new soon-coming biomedical journal and would like to have the format of "first & last author". Given the high configurable option...

First & last author format?

Is it possible to format "John C, Doe J, Tom M, Larry V; Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetuer; Nature; 2001; p200-204" to this: "John C, Larry V et al.; Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetuer; Nature; 2001; p200-204"?

i.e; first author, last author et al.?

Re: Working with Pages '09

Thank you for the superprompt response. I was able to test this out, and can confirm that it works quite well. Couple of questions though.. a) What is the bare minimum citation material needed for Bookends to recognize and acknowledge the citation? For eg: If I have a text that goes: Lorem ipsum dol...

Working with Pages '09

I see that the new version is compatible with Pages '09. I've been using Mellel before, but would like to now switch to Pages '09 for various reasons. I work with several people who review papers with references, and almost all of them use Windows. Is there a workflow that any of you'd recommend by ...

Lost "bold" capability

Hi, My formatting options state this: a. (d) t. j v , p-. But my example (and results in Mellel) comes out as: 1. Haugk, L. S., John, K. L. & Metho, K. H. (1995) Nonsensical clueless gibberish title. Nature 131, 3669-3672. I used to be able to bold any variable before without any problems. For s...

Thanks, Jon. It is going directly to publication. I'll give it a shot.

Re: Wierd Specific Requirement from Journal

...[$PMID: $u18] $doi:$u17 You can't tell Bookends to output just one author's name in bold. You'd have to modify the actual reference (put the author's name in bold). Jon Sonny Software Thanks, Jon. It's awesome that I can add PMID and doi. Re: author's name, it's a bummer that I have to go into e...

Weird Specific Requirement from Journal

One of the manuscripts that was submitted to a journal got a response specifically requiring me to: 1. Add Pubmed citation numbers (PMID) and DOI to the reference list. You will find PMID in http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez; and you will find DOI in http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/ P...

Color citations

Is it possible to color citations? I'm using Mellel and Bookends. I've gone through the guide where one can custom italicize or bold the citations. But how would one add color to it? I tried to click on styles -> blue, and while the format manager shows a, d , after scanning in Mellel, it comes up w...

Re: Citation format query

Jon, You may ignore that email. I just figured it out. All this while, I was confused with the 'formatting option' pane of the format manager. When I made changes to that pane, I was given the option of an example, which to me generated how my bibliography would look like, and not my citation. So al...

Re: Citation format query

I will give this a shot one more time now.. In other words, you need to tell Bookends what the final citation should look like, the format you are using isn't going to give you what you want. I don't know -- that's not coming from Bookends, but Mellel. I haven't checked -- could that mean it was a c...

Re: Citation format query

Thanks again, Jon. I'm using the Administrative Science Quarterly. My citations now look like: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit (Noran et al., 2008) On a completely unrelated topic, why do some of my citations come up as being red? For eg: I get.. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, ...
