Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to figure out how to get BE to separate two or more citations with the same author(s) by a comma. I have the correct field checked in both APA 5th and APA Citations formats, but the citations wind up being separated by a semicolon. So it should be:
(Smith, 1987, 1990)
but ...

Edited Books
Hi Jon,
Yes. The citation for an edited book would be:
Smith, A. B., & Jones, C. D. (Eds.) (Year.) Title.
In the text citation, it would be (Smith & Jones, Year). As I mentioned, I tried to fix that in the APA Citations bib format but to no avail. I put "e, d" (without quotes) but got this in ...

APA Edited Book
Hi Jon,
Here's an APA poser: When an edited book is cited, the editors' names appear in author format, followed by (Eds.), then the year. But in the bib, the editors names appear as the would when cited in an edited book, e.g., A.B. Smith rather than Smith, A.B. And the behavior is the same for the ...

9.07
Right. I've been doing that as recommended in the last few updates. I've created a duplicate of my current main database for use in 9.07. We'll see what we get.

ODF Support?
Out of curiosity, will BE support open document format?
The reason I ask is because I tried the RTF document scan in BE with a document I wrote in NeoOffice, and the results were less than spectacular. Much of the formatting in the original document was lost, although the refs came out fine. I ...

Speaking of APA
Hi Jon,
A few releases back you had mentioned you were going to include an updated APA format. There was a workaround for the "et al." and some other author issues in the text where we had to create another format, alter some of the in-text citation stuff, then have the original APA format refer to ...

Worked!
Hi Jon,
That did the trick--FileType is a neat little app. And you are right--searching the DB is very fast. When I used EN, I got used to typing in a search then going to get something to eat--by the time I got back, the search was done.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for your reply. I've found that the DB on my shared drive is "grayed out" when I try to open it with BE on my local machine. So I can't click on it to open it. From Finder, I clicked on "Get Info" and I do have read and write permissions for the file. Again, when I click on the file ...

Accessing a BE DB on a Shared Drive
I keep my main BE database on my machine at work, and I share the drive so I can access it from home. I do that because all the changes are kept in one place, rather than having several different versions of the DB on different computers. I tried to access that DB today but it doesn't seem to be ...

Mixing multiple in-text citations and text
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to Bookends after having used EN for quite some time (and Reference Manager before that, back when I actually used Windows). My question concerns mixing multiple in-text citations with text. Here's an example, with the asterisk as the citation seperator:
