Well, if you don't think it's ludicrous that BE syncs the same filename back and forth ad infinitum, I don't know what to say. But I for one don't care to sit through the endless dialog boxes telling me about it.
End of discussion.

Re: Sync attachments
And I understand your point. There's no further issue to resolve. I just want to be able to exclude attachments from sync (Sente is already doing this).

Re: Sync attachments
You're missing the point. Sync is an endless merry-go-round if you are using custom folders. You're constantly syncing the same changes back and forth between two machines, because there is one field that will always be different. That's not useful behavior. The solution: an option to exclude attach...

Re: Sync attachments
Read my post again. I was explaining why the current sync system on BE puts you in an endless merry-go-round if you don't use the default attachments folder. And even if the filename is exactly the same, the path would be different on the two machines (unless the two machines were clones, down to th...

Re: Sync attachments
Well, I don't care what you call it, the behavior is the same. Let me spell it out for you. Create Reference 1 in BE on Computer A. Attach file. Sync. Open BE on Computer B. Sync. Open Reference 1. Try to open attachment. BE offers to reattach and finds the file (this works on only one of my compute...

Re: Sync attachments
If I'm not mistaken, BE doesn't sync the attachments, but it does sync the symbolic link to the attachments. This is probably fine if you are using the default attachment folder, but if you are not—and you have attachments in different places on different computers—then it's not fine at all. What BE...

Import format: insert date on import
When I use "insert on import" under "misc" in the import filter manager, I get something like this: Fri Mar 13, 2009 But when I use "Insert Date" under the "Refs" menu, I get March 13, 2009 The latter is what I want—how do I get the import filter manage to ins...

Re: Speed issues on attachment with large folder hierarchy
I love it—not only does the suggestion get a thought, it gets implemented in the next revision.Let me think about this. Thanks for the suggestion.
When people ask me, Why Bookends? this is the kind of thing I tell them.

Re: Speed issues on attachment with large folder hierarchy
You can have one or the other (a structured list or a keyboard-navigable one), but not both. I think there would have to be a completely different approach to managing the attachment subfolder list. How about a good-old-fashioned "Open" dialog box? That would not only allow us archivist t...

Re: Speed issues on attachment with large folder hierarchy
I would second the vote for some sort of tree-style navigation in the attachment folder view, or anything that might make navigating the hierarchy easier. Scrolling down a long list can be difficult. One possibility might be keyboard navigation, a la the Finder (i.e., pressing K takes you to the fol...

Autocomplete Papers
I like the idea of the new feature "Autocomplete Papers," but it really doesn't do what I need it to do. Basically, it seems to be set up to import things from Google Scholar. But what if Google doesn't have a listing? What I'd like to see is an easy way to copy the text from the PDF into ...

Re: Local PDFs
Ditto for me on both copying and local PDF search. I have my own file structure. Local PDF inevitably attaches the wrong file.

Re: Dublin Code and RDF
Why not send me an example of a Dublin Core file you'd like to import so I can see what would be involved Take a look at the new online journal Theological Librarianship. http://journal.atla.com/ojs/index.php/theolib Every article is a PDF, and has DC metadata attached. But I can't figure out a way...
