Sounds like you're describing the Attachment Inspector.

Re: Bookends won't scan Mellel document

When something suddenly stops working it's because of some local issue. The first thing I'd try is rebooting the Mac.

Re: After Catalina update...

This is not a forum discussion. Please contact tech support directly and send a library with a reference showing this behavior. Also, tell us how you are changing the font type (e.g. in preferences, or ad hoc with the Font Panel).

Re: File renaming issue

I can't reproduce that, either. If you want to follow up, contact tech support directly with 1. A library containing a single reference with an attached PDF. 2. The PDF. 3. Screen snaps that show me what you're doing, before and after, so I can see what's failing and reproduce it here. Jon Sonny Sof...

Re: File renaming and tag search bugs -- the fix

Batch rename will keep the extra .pdf (which is of course a legal file name). The easiest thing to do is leave them alone. If you do rename them, do it individually in the PDF display pane so that the name is updated in Bookends and the Finder.

Re: Any way to create smart group of items with no finder tags?

No, PDF tags are only visible in the PDF toolbar when the PDF is showing. One (but not the most important) reason for not showing tags in the reference list is that you may have more than one PDF attached to a reference.

Re: Restore deleted style

Another trick I should have mentioned is that if you go to the Bookends file and trash

Installed Version.txt

the next time you launch Bookends it will replace all the default formats and import filters with the factory defaults. Custom formats and import filters are not touched.

Re: Restore deleted style

If you delete a custom format (which is distinguished in the list by being shown in bold), the factory default format will be used. If you delete the factory default, then, well, you no longer have the format. You can always download formats from our anonymous ftp site: ftp://ftp.sonnysoftware.com/p...

Re: Bringing New Device Into Existing iCloud Sync

1. You're syncing via iCloud (the data are uploaded and downloaded from the cloud), so you don't need to be simultaneously running two copies of Bookends to sync. In fact, you can't. 2. The instructions for setting up sync when you have both Mac and iOS devices are here https://www.sonnysoftware.com...

Re: Export to Citavi (with attachments)

Export from Zotero with attachments and then import that back into Zotero. Look at how they arrange things, then have Bookends do the same. I've forgotten the details at the moment, but the PDFs are exported to a folder in the same folder as the RIS text file, and I believe they use L1 tag to hold t...

Re: Export to Citavi (with attachments)

Bookends can output the information any way you like. I think you should write to Citavi and ask their advice on what they can do to import it.

Re: Export to Citavi (with attachments)

You can modify the RIS format (or any format) to output attachment name or even attachment paths -- look in the field popup menu beneath the Order field. Whether Citavi can import them is another matter (I don't know). Also, EndNote XML should contain any diacritics in the reference. If you find tha...

Re: File renaming issue

On a related note. The file renaming issue, where in the event of the user choosing the option to replace spaces with underscores, Bookends adds a space before the unique identifier at the end, has returned. This had been fixed in the last update but is back with the silent update. I can't reproduc...

Re: Attachments not found

I don't think Bookends can force iCloud Drive to download a file that's stored in the cloud. But you can copy the attachment name by selecting it in the Attachment Inspector (the full pathname will be copied, too, if the file is the local storage).
