Re: DIN 1505

(2) Regarding the great new post-processing features of Bookends (without them I would have been lost here), we don't have a replacement rule for the string " ," (space followed by a comma) like we have for the period. Could this be implemented or would this do harm to some other style? Y...

Re: DIN 1505

(b) For this style, after each editor there should be the parentheses "(Hrsg.)" (without quotes; Hrsg meaning editor in German) – this is not possible to do with Bookends (correct me if I am wrong!) I think you could by making a format Type in which "(Hrsg.)," was output as th...

Perhaps someone has created this and will let us know. If not, I can do this when I have a bit of time.

Hm, sounds like the index may be bad. Try rebuilding your database (you can try reindexing first if you like, and if that fails rebuild). I think that will take care of this.

Re: elementary questions (newb):

I am creating a custom ("unused") format for a particular set of newsletters.. and everything is turning out perfectly except that the date comes out with only the year I entered, not the month. Hi, Turn off "Year only for date" in the format (second tab). I am also having troub...

Hi.

Use Edit -> Paste Plain Text.

You can assign Command-V to this menu item in Preferences (default is Shift-Command-V).

Hi Henry,

I'm afraid EN 6 doesn't output XML, so Bookends doesn't know this is an attachment. If you can, open your database in EN 8 or 9, then export as XML. Bookends should pick up the image in that case.

Hi, You can force the closing paren like this: `)` If you made a *New* format *based on Chicago 15th*, Bookends will save it in your Custom Formats folder. If you simply edited the original, you'll need to move it there yourself to avoid it's replacment the next time you upgrade. Jon Sonny Software

Sounds great. But it is totally impractical. First, the different products vary enormously in the formatting features they support. Second, as the major player in this area ISI would have to agree to this, and even their own products (EN, Reference Manager, and ProCite) use different style definitio...

One would use it by exporting the references they want from JSTOR to disk, then importing that into Bookends with the filter (via drag and drop, for example). I'll let others say exactly how they use it

Making a new reference with a drop isn't really what many would want, though. For example, I always create the reference first (import, manual, etc.) and then add the attachment.

Dropping on the dock might simply be like dropping on a database, though. I'll think about that.

They won't work for a number of reasons. First, the extension belongs to EN, not Bookends, and we shouldn't try to highjack it. Second, drag and drop is used for attaching as well as importing, hence the current behavior. Personally, I much prefer drag and drop to using the menu for importing. In th...

Hi nicka,

Bookends provides a solution for that -- drag and drop with the Shift key held down. This causes Bookends to consider the file you drop a Text file, and it will offer to import it.

Hi Danny,

I mean that you don't know it's a toggle until you've actually done it. And what if you've clicked on a group other than the one you used to open the pane? How would you close that?

A dedicated shortcut like Option-Command-G would make more sense, I think.
