Format manager issue

Post by nicolinux »

Hi !

I'm using a personalized format for citations, but it doesn’t work as expected today (I don't remember when it worked, but a few days ago it did). Instead of having the right case, I get this : "BERNIER E., BÉDARD Y. ET LAMBERT M., 2003, « Cartographie sur demande sur le web et bases de données multidimensionnelles. De la personnalisation par couches cartographiques à la personnalisation par occurrences », \emph{Revue Internationale de Géomatique} n°13-3, pp.339-360."

So what's supposed to be italicized is indicated as \emph{}, and the authors where supposed to be written with small Caps... I checked the formats manager, there's nothing wrong.

Same thing appends when I use built-in formats, like APA for instance : "E., B., Y., B., \& M., L. (2003). Cartographie sur demande sur le web et bases de données multidimensionnelles. De la personnalisation par couches cartographiques à la personnalisation par occurrences. \emph{Revue Internationale de Géomatique}, \emph{13-3}, 339-360."

I'm using the last update (10.5.2), and Mac OS X 10.5.6...

Thank you for your help !

Hi,

The first problem is that the text is being formatted as if it were for BibTeX (perhaps it was inadvertently set to this). To fix it, use Biblio -> Bibliography Formatter and set the output to "Styled Text". Make that the default.

If there are still issues after you've corrected this please contact tech support directly.

Thanks, it fixes my problem, inded...

Bookends is certainly powerful, but also very hard to learn and use, in my opinion... :?

You might take the tutorial, if you haven't done it already. It's in the same folder as Bookends.

I did, but I haven't the time to read it completely.

I tried every bibliography applications (well every application I could afford, so not Endnote) and in the end, I still think Bookends is the best one. But I wish sometimes it was easier to use it. For instance, I'm still trying to figure out how it works will Mellel : I do exactly what I'm told, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t...

To be clear, the Tutorial is rather short (I don't mean the User Guide, which is more of a reference work). But even the Tutorial will take an hour or more to complete. I do suggest that you read individual sections of the User Guide that deal with areas you use a lot (for example, how formats work).

Our User Guide covers the Bookends/Mellel interactions, but not really how Mellel handles citations and citation objects. That's a function of Mellel, and is covered (in some detail, I believe) in its User Guide. There is overlap, of course, but I'd read that to get a firm understanding of how Mellel deals with citations. Feel free to write to tech support (ours or theirs) if you have questions.

Oh, you're right, I thought you meant the User Guide. I think I've never read the tutorial, so I'll try to do it...

Thanks for your answers, anyway ! ;)
