Removing fonts in citations?

Post by TXCiclista »

Bookends is a great program, but sometimes it is supremely frustrating (like when I spend 30 minutes trying to figure out why some titles are in a different fonttype and size than others). How do I force all citations to use just one font? I don't want *anything* fancy. I just want to know I can enter a citation and not have to worry about the fact that some titles (not all) for some reason display in 14-pt Arial (or what looks like it) while everything else (author, publisher, etc) is 12-pt TNR.

As a corollary, a future release might consider a "dummy mode" where the much deeper features which might confuse the new user are hidden until the user specifically enables them. if this already exists, PLEASE point me to it :P

This sounds like you have differently formatted entries in your database. This can happen quite easily when you copy and paste info into Bookends (which I do all the time).

You can discard all non-standard formatting by going to the Refs menu > Global Change > Restore Default Font & Style …

To ensure that you won’t get more strange formatting into your database you can then go to Bookends > Preferences. Then selects the Refs tab and set Assign Cmd-V to: Paste Plain Text in the lower right corner of the window.

Hi,

ozean's advice is very good.

And although I wouldn't call it a "dummy" feature, there is a setting in Preferences (Scan & Bib tab) where you can check "Default font overrides field settings" that you might want to set (any styles in the references will still come through).

Be warned, however: Restoring default *styles* will erase any formatting you may have applied in your research notes (underlines, italics, etc.).
