find lists directly by title?

Post by lerone »

hello forum,

I am wondering: is there any way to directly find a group, e.g. by its title?
– this means: I don´t want to search for single references (as the way from reference to lists is not really an easy one), but I want to directly search for lists.

sorry, in case I have overlooked something very obvious.
and thanks for any help + hints!

I'm not sure what you mean by "search for lists". What is a "list"? Please give an example.

hello Jon,

- sorry for long delay!

what I meant were basically the "static groups" in Bookends.

the reason I want to be able to search for them:
for example I´d like to be able to find a group (list) called "media philosophy" – even if I do not know whether the group is filed within the "philosophy" folder, the "media" folder, or in a "project x" folder.

so, as you can see this aims at the following situation/scenario:
if one has many reference groups, and a more complicated/diverse structure with folders (possibly nested as well), some groups might not be easy to find, as it is not neccessarily obvious where they are file in a complex structure.
– thus, it would be great if they could be searched by title, just like references themselves.

thanks for any further thought (or workaround) on this!

I see. No, that's not possible. The UI for that is problematic. There could be a dedicated Group search box above the group list (as there is for Term Lists), but that eats up space for something that won't be used often. There could be a right-click option to "Find Group" that would select the group (opening up whatever folders had to be open to see it). It would do what you want, but not be obvious to the user. Or possibly a widget next to the term Groups that would open a popover that let you search for a Group. Something to think about.

thank you for minding, Jon!

to my ears (mind) the widget solution would sound just perfect.
... but *anything* that does help in finding groups by string would be really helpful in the end.

so, I keep my hopes with the upgrades.

very best!
