As general good practice, what would be the best field to use for the article number? The Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication is an online-only journal, and, instead of page numbers, it uses article numbers.
It's really up to you. If you create your own Type for these articles (not a bad idea) then you could probably use the Pages field. Alternatively, you could assign a user field that you don't use for anything and enter the info there. You'll have to tweak the formats you use to insert this field where you want it, of course.
