Hi Jon,
I just discovered a missing element in my custom version of the MHRA format. In the footnote citations, it opens like this:
a, 't', f, v {(d)}
this is all fine, but then I should get something like this:
, *article page range* (p. *cited pages*).
So if the article is on pages 129-143 of ...

Re: Collecting bibliography on the internet
What I have discovered is that the results, as far as I checked them, contain mainly, if not only, references of books.
Which sources have you checked? If you've searched Amazon or a library you are likely to get mainly books. Given that libraries very rarely indexes articles within journals, you ...

Thanks for clarifying - and for the bug fix! It all works beautifully now!

Short titles for secondary order citations
When using secondary order citations for journal articles, I get a weird result. The result I would like to get is this:
Smith, 'ShortTitle', p. 90.
However, I use this formula and get the following outcome:
a, {'s'^'t'}$, p. ^, pp. $p-.
Smith, 'ShortTitle, p. 90. (closing quotation mark missing ...

Multiple citations and Ibid.
I would like to use "Ibid." for repeated citation in my footnotes, but have run into this problem when having multiple citations in one group.
If the citation markers in footnote 1 looks like this:
{Author1@50; Author2@51; Author3@52}
And footnote 2 is this:
{Author2@55}
The result is:
Footnote ...

Re: Cited pages mess
Thanks, Jon for pointing me to this; It works well now!
I was wondering about another thing, though. If I have a multi-volume work, and I am citing, say page 58 of volume 2, it would be the most straightforward thing to add the following to the temporary citation marker:
@II, 58
However, this ...

Re: Simple format question
Have you tried with the force quotes (`), doing like this:
a (d) 't.' j, v(i)`:` p-.
Alternatively, you could use this setup:
a (d) 't.' j, v(i) p-
and enter ":[space]" in the "before" field, and "." in the "after" field of "Cited Pages" box of the "Citation Options" pane of the formats editor ...

Cited pages mess
I have customised the built-in MHRA format, having two formats working together, one for in-text (footnote) citations and one for bibliographies. According to the MHRA style guide, cited pages in footnotes should be rendered like this [p. 243.] for single pages and [pp. 243-245.] for page ranges ...

Re: Bookends links don't work in Bookends!
Do you know the built/in links feature in Bookends? If you select the reference you're working on and click the inspector icon in the toolbar, you'll get the links inspector. You can now select any reference from the list view and drag on to the inspector. This will create a link between the two ...

Re: "New"-button in toolbar
I didn't think of that. Perhaps the action/gear icon could go in the toolbar as well?Jon wrote:The action (gear) popup does other things, too, like flatten group list hierarchy and set the boolean operation for multiple selections. But the Add button probably should go.
Loving version 11, by the way!

"New"-button in toolbar
I really like the new toolbar in Bookends 11 (and look forward to customising some day!). However, I noticed a small UI slip: clicking the "new" button lets you add new references, groups, smart groups etc. Combined with the "delete" icon next to it, these two icons basically cover all of the ...

Migrating from Sente 6
Having been a Sente user for quite a while, I've given up on the product and decided to make use of my Bookends licence and make the switch. The inflexible citation/bibliogaphy management, lack of integration with the OS X platform, lack of export functionality, missing cross-reference linking ...

Re: Indented book chapters
As for the way to show it, indented or visually offset by more than just font size seems to be the nicer option.
I think it would be great to do both, indent and use a smaller font. Perhaps the main reference (i.e. the edited book) could have a disclosure triangle or something similar to toggle ...

Indented book chapters
I really like the feature in Bookends that allows you to replicate a book reference as book chapter, as well as later being able to see all chapters of the book with the "Show with Chapter" function. I was just wondering if there's a better way to organise book chapters? Perhaps by having the option ...

10.5.1 eating up CPU
I just upgraded to version 10.5.1, and I've noticed that when Bookends is running (even in the background) it's taking up all of the CPU on one of my cores (I have a Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz). The fans are going full steam, which is obviously quite annoying when I'm trying to work. I've tried to reboot my ...
