updating a Preferences file
I am currently using Bookends 12. A friend has provided me with an important format, but I need to use the Preferences file he has provided. Is there a way to replace my BE 12 Preferences file with the BE 11 file he has provided for me?

Re: Suppressing a ":" When No Pages Cited
Thanks for the reply. Since I am at the end of the project, that last suggestion would involve overriding dozens of particular instances. I will just do a search and replace on the 2 dozen or so exceptions. Good learning experience and will check the details of a style guide VERY carefully in the fu...

Re: Suppressing a ":" When No Pages Cited
Jon, I did not use the @ but it still includes the ":" in the scanned reference. I have not used the "Common Settings" "before" Cited Pages for the ":" since I have some reference types that should not include a ":". I have had to build the : into th...

Suppressing a ":" When No Pages Cited
The style guide for the book I am writing calls for parenthetical references. Some tools, like books and journal articles use ":" before page numbers, but others, life reference works, do not (so I don't think I can simply use the "common settings" tab for my issue). My question:...

Bookends Hanging on Startup with Mellel
I have recently updated to the most recent versions of Bookends and Mellel. Bookends has started hanging (read, "spinning beachball") when started in conjunction with Mellel. Any ideas why this is happening? After a minute or two, the problem resolves, but it is irritating. Also, Crtl-Y no...

OK, Jon; the citations now are formatted as the style of the series demands. Thanks for your help. It took me a bit to get my mind around the fact that Bibliography and Footnotes and in-text citations can be formatted in the primary order window of the Formats Manager and that the Bib and Citations ...

Jon, Thanks for the quick reply. In my field, a reference tool might be a dictionary (e.g. The Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels) or a lexicon like A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, etc. The tools are so universally recognized that the publisher sim...

Different format for reference tools
I am new to Bookends and learning the ropes. My question has to do with formatting an alternative style in citations. The publisher's general style for citations in the book series for which I am writing is as follows: (Author Date: pages). No problem. For reference tools, however, the author/editor...
