Re: "Find and attach Local PDF" from specific folder?
Jon, As usual, thank you for the response. I'll just take a bit of time and go through it. No problems. At least I HAD backups! EDIT: Ah, now I know why you said it works "sometimes" and isn't perfect. Even after forcing spotlight to reindex the folder with the PDFs in it, Bookends still d...

"Find and attach Local PDF" from specific folder?
I had a catastrophic hard drive failure recently. I had backups of everything, but for some reason my bookends attachments folder took a huge hit. It lost 3/4 of my PDFs. (Don't think it was a bookends issue, more of a time machine/other stuff issue.) Now, this generally isn't an issue as I can just...

Re: Focus change upon using keyboard shortcuts to assign Gro
I will try it. From watching a few video tutorials it looks like what Pages SHOULD be. It looks 100x better than Word. I'll attempt to write a paper with it to see what happens. It's so hard to find a replacement for Word because even though it's bloated and runs like crap, it has EVERY feature you ...

Re: Focus change upon using keyboard shortcuts to assign Gro
Jon, Thanks for the update. Like I said previously, this isn't a huge issue, just something I noticed, there are other ways of doing what I wanted to do since Bookends is so flexible. I really appreciate the quick response I get from you though. I honestly didn't expect to hear anything back until a...

Re: Focus change upon using keyboard shortcuts to assign Gro
Will do. I'll post my results. I thought maybe there was a system shortcut the was doing something when I hit command-1 but I couldn't find anything in system prefs. EDIT: The same thing happens on the guest account on my computer even though bookends has never been opened on that account. I'll try ...

Re: Focus change upon using keyboard shortcuts to assign Gro
For the first issue -- did you assign a CommandKey - # combination to the groups in Bookends? If so, you should be able to add references to groups without the focus leaving the reference list (it doesn't do that for me). For the second, there is no menu shortcut shown for "Make Hit" beca...

Focus change upon using keyboard shortcuts to assign Groups
Hi, I have a very small feature request. I've recently been going through my library and manually assigning groups (even though smart groups work fine!) and I've been using keyboard shortcuts (aka apple-1, apple-2 etc.) however, if you are looking at the main list view of bookends, then assign a ref...

Re: Scanning issue
My default response is to blame word before any other program on a Mac. It honestly is a terrible (albeit convenient) program.

Re: New video tutorial -- updated
Looks great! However I still find using your normal browser to download the PDFs then drag and drop them into the library the easiest. I find that Bookends is much better at finding the information for the PDF than it is for finding the PDF itself (may just be my university's access options/restrict...

Re: Question regarding the "right pane."
Again, a problem already thought of and fixed by the devs. Thank you for the answers. However, I do have a follow up question. You said that it's allowed because of Italicized words or what not (For example in-situ ) but these changes don't affect the bibliographic output do they? I've answered my o...

Re: Weird issue with "Copy Formatted"
Ah, I see, that is correct. I would have never have thought to look there. Maybe another pull down menu in the Scan & Bib section of preferences would be useful, just for the "Output as:" Pull down menu, not the format itself, but the "Styled Text, Plain Text, Bibtex, etc." T...

Weird issue with "Copy Formatted"
I've used bibtex for writing my most recent paper. In the bottom of the main bookends window (the bottom "pane" if you will), I have the formatted citation showing, so it'll show the formatted citation for any format I wish. When in bibtex mode, these formats will give you latex formatting...

Question regarding the "right pane."
Why is "rich text" allowed in the right pane? I'm talking about the pane that opens when you double click on a reference. Every once in a while I'll have to copy and paste the title some somewhere and it'll be in a really weird font that without going into the fonts pane, it's a pain to ch...

Re: Force Quit required after changing default font
I'm running bookends 12.1.1 and OS X 10.9.1 and I can quit just fine after changing those things. No force quit required.

Re: Possible to use JUST the Unique ID# for citations?
Ah, nevermind, I figured it out. Apologizes. I didn't see the "Unique ID" in the "Special characters" drop down menu. I simply created a custom format called "Citations only" and put $#$@ in the "Field Order" box. I swear this program has so much functionality...
